What is included and what is not included

We charge £75 a week for horses and £65 a week for ponies.

We are often asked what is included in the price and what isn't, hopefully the information below will help answer your questions.

If you have any questions or would like to arrange a visit please call 07753747929 or email retirementlivery@hotmail.com

Turnout
  • We understand the importance of daily turnout to retired horses and ponies. It can benefit joints, circulation and the repiratory system as well as providing mental stimulation

  • We have a range of grazing, all of which is sloping to provide natural drainage and encourage gentle exercise.

  • We manage our grazing carefully and rotate paddocks regularly. We roll, harrow, aerate and fertilise our fields when needed.

  • We rotate grazing with sheep which are beneficial in eating weeds and plants that the horses won't touch.

  • Our fields are fenced with livestock proof fencing we also use electric fencing to keep horses from getting too close to fences.

  • You will get the choice of whether your horse has daily turnout (out during the day/in at night) all year or stays out 24/7 in summer.

  • On rare occasions it may be unsafe to let the horses/ponies out in the field. If this is the case we have a menage and a round pen which we can use as turnout areas

Stabling
  • We have traditionally built stables which are well ventilated and cosy.

  • All the stables have rubber matting which prevents slipping, provides insulation and encourages the horses and ponies to lie down.

  • We use dust free bedding and choose the type of bedding to suit your horse.

  • Every horse and pony is different and each bed is made up to suit the individual.

Care
  • As we only have 5 horses in our care at a time you can be sure your horse or pony will receive the individual care and attention he or she deserves.

  • We pick out hooves on a daily basis

  • Rugs are changed/checked morning and night

  • Each horse or pony is groomed regularly

  • Sun cream, fly spray is applied when needed

  • Your horse will have his or her feet trimmed every 8 weeks by our patient, professional farrier.

  • We are supported by an excellent professional equine veterinary practice and are within an hours drive of the woldclass Leahust equine hospital,

  • An annual visit from a qualified equine dentist is included

  • We are also available to hold your horse for additional vetinary/other medical treatment if required.

  • Your horse's happiness and well being is really important to us, we monitor all the residents regularly and use a weigh tape on a monthly basis to monitor weight loss/gain.

  • We operate a worming programme which includes regular worm counts and worm treatment as required (annually for tapeworm).

Feed and Forage
  • Top quality hay is included and is fed in the field if needed

  • Haylage can be sourced if required

  • We do not include the price of feed or supplements in our price. This is because every horse or pony has different requirements. As we only have 5 horses or ponies in our care at any one time we are able to give them exactly what they need. Each horse or pony's feed/supplement is stored seperately and we only charge you when we need to replace it. You only pay for the feed your horse or pony actually has and can be sure he or she gets exactly what they need. We think this is the only fair way of doing it.

Working with you

If you decide to move your horse or pony to live with us you will find that we will ask you a lot of questions about their habits and behaviour. This is to help us find out as much as we can about them so we can settle them in as quickly as possible. We find that our residents tend to settle in quickly and thrive on having a regular routine. We will send you an email with pictures each month to update you on what your horse or pony has been up to and of course you are welcome to visit whenever you please. If you are still able to ride, you are welcome to ride in our menage or try out one of our quiet hacking routes.
